Claude Edward Hayes

Hayes, Claude Edward, 88, of Springfield, passed away on May 1, 2016 in Heartland of Springfield. Claude was born on December 25, 1927 in Paintsville, Kentucky, the son of Gus and Jessie (Daniels) Hayes. He had 14 siblings, of whom he was close to and very fond of. As a child, he was known to collect creatures and things in his pockets to show to his siblings and friends. Claude married Billie Hensley in June of 1952 and the odyssey of his legacy began. The love and compassion Claude had for his children is indisputable. He supported his children through their sporting events, maturation into jobs, marriages and raising their own children. James is fond of his father's attendance to his basketball games. Tom recalls him encouraging his hard work. Claudia remembers the day that her father tokened her the number one girl. Claude made many trips from Ohio to California to spend time with Gene. Mandy "his baby girl" recalls his talent in singing and how he would dance with a booty shake. He enjoyed gun shows and collecting knives. Claude had a way of interjecting silliness into conversations with facial expressions. Each of Claude's grandchildren share "Pappawisms." These memories of one liners bring wisdom and humor. Andy shares the bluest eyes with Pappaw. Jackie recalls his cure for the ultimate hangover, and having home remedies for almost any ailment. Renee shares how special she felt with Pappaw would take his grandkids to the candy store for $2 worth of candy. Erika recalls him loving a good deal and sharing the Doublemint gum that he carried in his shirt pocket. Bradley recalls Pappaw giving dating advice, he told Bradley to "be sure to always carry a pack of gum or a pack of cigarettes because the ladies would like one or the other." Leesa recalls his simplistic diet of bologna, cucumbers and tomatoes and how when she eats the same she is comforted with his memory. Josh recalls Pappaw's infinite wisdom and not accepting change easily. Claude has a unique place in the hearts of those who knew him, loved him and he will be missed indefinitely. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
