DeWitt, Charles "Chalk", 85, of Springfield, passed away Friday, November 20, 2015 in Springfield Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 12, 1930 in Black Fork, Ohio the son of Edward and Kate (Morris) DeWitt. He retired from Navistar after 25 years of service, was a member of Elks Lodge #51 and a lifelong fan of the Reds and Buckeyes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his children, Cheryl (Terry) Kovaleski , Michelle (Jeff) Damron, Rocky Blazer, Kelly (Pat) Munsey, Gale Yarger all of Springfield and Holly (Gary) Johnson of New Carlisle; grandchildren, Christy (Mike) Walter, Ryan (Jessica) Kovaleski, Zach, Zane and Zoe Voorhees, Doug (Annie) Nave, K.D. Justice, Lindsey and Vinny Munsey, Kaitlyn and Kourtney Yarger, David and Johnny Crist, Gary, Dustin and Steven Johnson; great grandchildren, Christopher and Kayla Kovaleski, Kyle Linton, Harper Walter, Parker and Preston Nave, Madison Justice, Ryley and Owen Nesselroutte, Tanner and Mila Holland; special nephew, Danny (Dala) DeWitt; special niece, Arlene (Dave) Dean and many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley and 11 siblings. The family would like to thank the staff at Forest Glen Health Campus and Springfield Regional Medical Center for their excellent care. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME, with an Elks service at 7:00 p.m. His funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Pastor Dan Powell officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Community Mercy Hospice.
