Charles A. Smith

Smith, Charles A. "Chuck", CMSGT (Retired), 71, of Springfield, crossed over at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 in his residence. He was born in Springfield on November 5, 1941 the son of Francis "Art" and Mary (Maloney) Smith. Chuck proudly served for 34 years in the military, three with the U.S. Navy and retiring after 31 years with the Ohio Air National Guard. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served in many different capacities. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca "Becky" (Merrow); two daughters, Cathy (Randy) Keifer and Angela Smith all of Springfield; two sons, David (Patti) Smith of Chicago, Illinois and Bill (Tracy) Smith of Atlanta, Georgia; 11 grandchildren and his sister, Anne Marie (Ted) Rusen of New Carlisle. Chuck was a beloved uncle, and friend to all who knew him. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
