Esterline, Carel D., 89, of Springfield, died at 7:45 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2014 in Emeritus at Fox Run, Fairborn. She was born in Fostoria, Ohio on November 19, 1924 the daughter of Albert N. and Clara (Goshe) Jung. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Carel graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1942. She met the love of her life, John Esterline (class of 1940) at school. They wed in St. Raphael Catholic Church on February 14, 1946 and were married 54 years. Most of her life was spent as a wife and mother raising four children. Carel was very musical and artistic. She played in her high school orchestra and later played the organ. She loved flowers and they often were the subject of her paintings. She sewed for her children and later took an interest in ceramics, creating many nativity sets, cookie jars and other pieces. She loved dolls, creating over 150 dolls in porcelain and dressing them in elegant gowns she handmade. Survivors include her three children and spouses, Lynn (Jim) Gildow of Enon, Vicki (Steve) Fourman and Ron (Nancy) Esterline all of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Gloria Esterline of Springfield; sister-in-law, Gertrude Esterline; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and special nephew and spouse, David (Charyl) Castillo. She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 2000; son, Michael in 2011; sister, Virginia Hofmeister and brother, Eugene Jung. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Raphael Church. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Raphael Restoration Fund.
