Bernice P. Sowards

Sowards, Bernice P., 87, of Springfield, died at 10:00 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 in her residence. She was born in Mitchell, South Dakota on December 8, 1926 the daughter of Otto and Nancy (Motley) Wittenhagen. She, along with her husband, owned and operated Carmen's Shoes for many years. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and Northwood Hills Country Club. Survivors include her husband, Arthur P.; two sisters, Ruth McLaury of Mitchell, South Dakota and Davona Murphy of Ezel, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Jeff Mullinix officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Mercy Hospice in memory of Bernice.
