Barbara A. Newell

Newell, Barbara A., 75, of Springfield, died at 12:35 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 in Good Shepherd Village. She was born in Washington D.C. on August 27, 1938 the daughter of Charles and Mildred (Beach) Dabbs. She worked for the Social Security Administration for 25 years and was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Survivors include her four children and spouses, Patrick Newell, Elizabeth "Beth" (Lee) Zimmers both of Springfield, Michael (Linda) Newell of Urbana and Sean Newell of Springfield; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Dabbs of Virginia, Richard Dabbs of Maryland and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Robert in 1991. Her family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Good Shepherd Village and Crossroads Hospice. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. with Deacon Norm Horstman officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
