Strozdas, Alfred P., died January 3, 2015 at age 96. Al was born in Sioux City, Iowa on December 2, 1918 to Peter and Magdalena Strozdas, Lithuanian immigrants. He graduated from Morningside College in 1940. He met and married Mary Eunice Brennan in 1946. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage until Mary died in 2009. Al and Mary are survived by 6 children; Julie (Jeff) Ballmann of Dayton, Mary Jo (Bob) Nero of Bonita Springs, FL, John (Noel Ampel) Strozdas of Los Angeles, Jerry (Dee) Strozdas of Springfield, Jim (Carrie) Strozdas of Louisville, KY, and Katy (Joe) Tinius of Bowling Green, KY. Al is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A grandson preceded him in death. Al served in the United States Army during WWII as a Special Services Officer in the India - Burma Theater, rising to the rank of major. After the war, Al worked in Sioux City, IA, Oak Ridge, TN, Paducah, KY and Dayton before serving as Springfield City Manager from November 1968 until his retirement in 1977. After his retirement from the City of Springfield, Al served as a consultant to Ohio cities on labor relations and management issues. Al was a member and past president of the Springfield Rotary Club, and the University Club. He chaired the United Way Campaign and served on the Board of the Literacy Coalition. He was a long time member of Northwood Hills Country Club and St. Teresa Parish. Visitation will be at CONROY FUNERAL HOME, 1660 E. High St. in Springfield on Friday, January 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 1827 N. Limestone St. at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10.
