Private Service

Steele, Geraldine Anne “Jerrianne”, 83, of Springfield, passed away peacefully in her home on December 22, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Springfield on June 27, 1937, the daughter of Jerome and Mary Schutte. She was preceded in death by Don Steele, her loving husband of 41 years. For well over 40 years, Jerrianne devoted herself to a life of service, working and volunteering in various capacities for St. Teresa School and Parish. When she wasn’t cross stitching beautiful decorative quilts, she tirelessly baked cookies, and her much prized pecan rolls. A skilled calligrapher, many special invitations were sent with her lovely penmanship gracing the envelopes. She truly enjoyed tending to her garden, watching sports, and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her sister, Rosemary Digan; children, Christine (Jami) Weaver, Jerome (Tanya) Steele and Brian (Vicki) Steele; grandchildren, Justin (Laken), Zack, Sophia, and Luke; great grandchildren, Evelyn and Aylin, and several nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to St. Teresa Church. Condolences may be sent to the family at conroyfh.com. My dear ol' dad counted collection with Mrs Steele and took great pride in both their accuracy and speed, He especially looked forward to her gift of delicious homebaked cookies. And my children had great respect for Mrs Steel when they were students and she was school secretary. Hers was a life well lived and she will be missed by many.

Dear Brian and family, Working with Jerrianne at St Teresa School was a joy. She was a wonderful mother and a great example of her deep faith. I loved her humor, her dedication to St Teresa, and her sweet way of interacting with her students. She was the librarian during my time at St Teresa. She had great respect for all who worked with her. Heaven has gained an angel. May your memories give peace to your broken heart.

Mrs. Steele was an amazing, lovely and strong woman who continually made me want to do my best. She taught child after child at St. Teresa’s to live up to their greatest potential, always unconditionally there with her encouragement and wisdom. Her exceptional being blessed many people’s lives.

- Bronwyn (Funk) Zink, Sunday December 27th, 2020

Jerrianne was truly a special person! I remember her walking by our house on her way to and from St. Teresa's. She would always have a kind word to say and always asked about our boys. Our deepest sympathy to Brian and the family. She will be missed by many for leaving a smile on all our faces.

- Judy & Don Capelli, Sunday December 27th, 2020

Your mother was such a positive influence on the lives of so many kids (and their parents!) at St. Teresa. She was kind and strong and had a very dry sense of humor. I always enjoyed talking with her whenever our paths would cross. I’m sure she will be missed and remembered by more people than you can imagine. Sending prayers of peace and comfort to your family in the coming days. God bless you all.

- Heather Hecht Tayloe, Sunday December 27th, 2020

Mrs. Steele was a wonderful woman. She made quite an impression on me as an elementary and middle school student at St. Teresa. I appreciated her no non-sense attitude, her beautiful calligraphy, and from her I learned how to properly spell “receive”. I’m so sorry to hear of her passing and will keep her family in my prayers.

- Lisa (Reinmuller) Storm , Sunday December 27th, 2020

Christine, Brian and Jerome, Please accept our deepest sympathy. Your mother was an incredible person. She was kind, generous and thoughtful. She was a touchstone for our children all through catholic school and never failed to ask about them through college and their graduate schools. We shared a love of gardening, but she was always the superior gardener. Our family loved your mother and will miss her terribly. If there is ever anything we can do to help please do not hesitate to ask.
