What can I say about my good friend and mentor that would sum up the honor it was to call him my friend or the wealth of knowledge, not just about the industries we serve, but about how to build/foster relationships in aspects of my life. John was always going the extra mile to make sure that the "Team" was in good spirits, regardless of the situation, and never gave up trying to figure out a way to make sure the men/women on the team were keeping their chin up and sharing his enthusiasm for life and that the future just had to be brighter than it was at that moment. John and I have worked very closely for >6 years as he and I worked as the sole proprietors of the Water Management business. Traveling the globe looking for opportunity and leading markets to answers they were looking for and the solutions to make them happen. Always spending nearly every minute of time together on the phone, in a car/plane, or at the breakfast/lunch/dinner table brainstorming what could we do to convince the business to allow us the runway to fulfill our vision. At the end of the day, it still seems surreal that he has passed from this life into his eternal home, and we are all left with a whole the size of Texas in our hearts/lives. John was a man of impeccable integrity, tenacity, a consuming desire to know & better everyone he came in contact with, and a larger than life enthusiasm that you couldn't help but appreciate and enjoy. I'm going to miss you my friend! I'll always do my best to make sure all of your hard work and accomplishments are not forgotten.

There are many work related stories about John—always willing to help, always kind and thoughtful, humorous, and humble—a forging pioneer in the business. Many evenings after meetings or trips, I’ll remember sitting down with John, enjoying stories over a meal and a drink—there was something to be learned from him on every occasion, even more so a laugh. John was proud of his family, and I always looked forward to hearing the end result of his yearly trip to the Outer Banks with his boys and family. A stellar man and a rarity both professionally and personally—selfishly, I’ll miss him, his solid advice, and lighthearted approach. My profound sympathies to the Downey family and close friends...you’ve lost a great one.

My sincerest condolences to the Downey family. His other family which was everyone who came to know him I’m sure, offers their sympathies and regrets at his passing. Having known him for 36 years after setting me up as a dealer in 1982, we had many personal, memorable experiences. One of the last communications we exchanged just a month or so ago came from a text I sent him: John;“Although I nearly have the Enclyclopedia Britanica between my ears, I LOST THE TABLE OF CONTENTS”. … John replied: “We all have trials and tribulations we must face … Thank God we still have our wit about us.” He’s been deeply loved, and will sadly be missed. Rest in peace my friend.

WOW! I don't know where to begin. The first time I met Jeff was when he would come to the Kissell Co. to pick Betty for lunch. My husband Mark and I became great friends with Betty and Jeff. I remember a time at our first home eating Keg & Cork pizza and drinking Little Kings. It must have been before { Jack & Coke} with Jim and Claudia Williams. Great time had by all. I remember the day Betty and Jeff asked Mark and myself to be Brian's God Parents. I still can't believe that this has happened to our close friend. We will never forget his smile or friendship. Our love and prayers to Betty, Brian, Jen, Adam, Jenny, Alex, Teresa, the grandbabies and all of the family

Very sad to know the demise of John Downey. He was a wonderful human being. I got in touch with John in the year 2002 and he was instrumental in bringing me on board as Trimble partner. His moral support and the trust helped us to create Trimble foot prints in India first time in 2002. John was very warm hearted person and always ready to help. It is a great loss for his family, friends & Trimble family too. My heartfelt condolences to all.

- Manoj K. Sharma, New Delhi, India, Sunday June 17th, 2018

Sincere Sympathies for all the Downey family. I had the privilege of having John in my group in the mid-eighties and knowing him for more than half his life. He was always extremely professional, offered good insights, and was pleasant to work with. He was well liked by his co-workers, his customers, and gave a lot of himself furthering the many new concepts that the AG industry would embrace over the decades. . Despite my efforts I could never get him to vent his frustrations and he always kept a positive face even when we were discussing our cancer issues. My prayers are with all of you.

John touched many of us over the last 35 years. What I learned by watching and working with John was that when a decision had to be made, he always checked in with his heart first, and then wrapped a solution to the problem around his heart's logic. He was kind, gentle, and a wonderful friend.
