POWELL, Albert G., 87, passed away July 4, 2018 surrounded by his family and close friends, Shonil and Faranza Datta. Pharmacist, business owner, friend to many and most importantly devoted and loving son, brother, uncle, grandfather, father and husband. Albert was a joy to be around. His smile, kind words and many thoughtful deeds will be remembered by all who knew him. Born in Springfield in 1930, Albert was the proud son of Eugenia Pasquini and Sylvester Powell, who immigrated from Italy to the United States as young adults, settled in Springfield, to work and raise their family. The youngest of ten, Albert treasured his sisters Nellie Blaine (Frank), Blanche Aldrich (Bill), Helen Patton (Bob), Lena Bell (Phil) and Maggie Myers (Daniel) and his brothers Elmer, Sylvester, Richard, and John who all preceded him in death. He is survived by the love of his life for 57 years, Barbara (Winget) and his son David (Jenny), daughter Amy (Casey) Skapik and the pride of his life, his three grandchildren: Albert Powell, Emily (Dan) Karwisch and Molly Skapik. Albert loved people. A buckeye to the end, Albert was a graduate of The Ohio State University School of Pharmacy. He proudly served in the United States Army. He began his pharmacy career with the former Schmidt’s Drugs and started the second location in Northridge, which he eventually purchased. He took great joy helping his customers for more than 35 years as the owner and pharmacist at Northridge Pharmacy, and along with Barb as owners of Amy’s Hallmark. He treasured his many lifelong friends in the community and took great pleasure in helping with the Lions Club and other activities. He loved all things Italian and was proud of his heritage. He loved technology, travel, hot weather, current events, Ohio State football and Cincinnati Reds baseball, and was an avid reader, but most of all he loved being with his family more than anything. Albert will be remembered at a simple service on Tuesday, July 10th at 2:00 PM in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
