AMICON, Eugene “Tony”, 96, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born July 25, 1920 in Columbus, Ohio the son of John L. and Marietta (Grottla) Amicon. Tony worked for Columbia Gas for 42 years working his way up to a service manager. He was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II, a longtime member of Northwood Hills Country Club, Elks Lodge #51, V.F.W. #1031, the American Legion and St. Raphael Catholic Church. Tony was an avid golfer and bowler and spent years roller skating when he was younger with his wife, Shirley. Survivors include three children, Don Amicon, Springfield, Steve Amicon, Bellflower, California and Sandy & Mike Stevens, Springfield; one foster son, Al & Judy Croucher, Springfield; six grandchildren, Angela & Keith Zack, Camaree Stevens, Alisa & David Grimes, Andrea Amicon, Heather Croucher and Hilaree Croucher; five great grandchildren, Ethan, Antoinette, Vivian, Charlotte and Grant and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 2002, one grandson, Scott Stevens, one brother, Donald Amicon and two sisters, Martha Roberts and Barb Freeman. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday in St. Raphael Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
