Proudly serving Springfield and surrounding areas for four generations.

The origin of Conroy Funeral home begins almost 100 years ago with George J. Degenhart, the great grandfather of the current owners Kyle and Bryce Conroy. Originally from Cincinnati, George began his career as a traveling embalmer in Washington state before returning to Ohio to settle down. In 1919 he opened the Degenhart Funeral Home on Lagonda avenue, primarily serving the German community. Several years and locations later, his business continued to grow in the Edward Wren estate on north Limestone St.

In 1945 George's son in law John J. Conroy returned from serving in the U.S. Army in Europe and joined in the business. After John's graduation from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1949, the business was renamed the Degenhart-Conroy Funeral Home. Upon the sudden and unexpected death of George Degenhart in 1955, John bought the property at its present location on east high street and physically refurbished the building to accommodate the workings of a funeral home. Conroy Funeral Home opened its doors later that year.

In 1967 ground was broken on the first addition to the funeral home. A few years later John's son, Jack Conroy, graduated from college in 1971 and joined the family business. The business continued to grow and in 1970, fellow Springfielder John Vollmer officially joined the firm. John had worked with Conroy Funeral Home for a number of years while in high school. After attending college at Eastern Kentucky and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science he came aboard as a licensed director in 1971.

An additional wing and chapel was added in 1992 along with ample parking. With the availability of two chapels, multiple services can be held at the same time. Rob Webster, a Middletown native, joined the funeral home 1995 to help with the continued growth in business. Rob has been with the funeral home ever since.

In 2004, Jack’s son, Kyle, joined the funeral home after graduating from the same mortuary school his father, grandfather and great grandfather attended. Kyle is a licensed funeral director, embalmer and certified crematory operator. His younger brother Bryce came to work with the family in 2013 and now runs the funeral home as a licensed funeral director with Kyle. A crematory facility was installed on the property in 2014 ensuring that your loved one never leaves our care.
