Grief Support

Grieving couple

At a time of loss and sorrow, it is often helpful to find someone to speak with. Grief Support or Bereavement Services can provide assistance in these trying times as you adjust to the loss of your loved one. A number of local organizations provide counseling services or group sessions, and many churches have a support group for members who have recently experienced a loss. Below are some links to organizations that may be able to help.

  • Community Mercy Bereavement Services
  • Pathways of Hope (Community Mercy Hospice) - Pathways of Hope, the Grief Counseling Center of Ohio’s Hospice, offers the community a variety of services. A team of Masters prepared counselors, social workers, and an art therapist provides support and education. All have significant experience and expertise in helping grieving children, adolescents and adults.

  • Positive Perspectives
  • Positive Perspectives - Positive Perspectives, Inc. is a Springfield-based group of mental health professionals who are dedicated to helping with life’s difficulties. We are trained psychologists, social workers, and counselors. But more than that, we are real people who have coped with and transcended difficult life experiences ourselves

  • Grief Share services directory
  • GriefShare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. You don’t have to go through the grieving process alone.

  • Compassionate Friends
  • The Compassionate Friends exists to provide friendship, understanding, and hope to those going through the natural grieving process.

  • Center for Loss & Life Transition
  • Led by grief counselor and educator Dr. Alan Wolfelt, we are an organization dedicated to helping people who are grieving and those who care for them.

“People are forever changed by the experience of grief in their lives. We, as humans, do not ‘get over’ our grief, but work to reconcile ourselves to living with it. Anyone who attempts to prescribe a specific time frame for the experience only creates another obstacle for the mourner to overcome.”
